Birds of paradise and Gauguin's South Sea paintings: the very mention of the South Sea instantly conjures up romantic images of paradise in the Pacific. But how did the people of Oceania live in the past, and how have their cultures changed? What links them to Germany and the Hanseatic city of Bremen? Fascinating original exhibits combine with new media to present 60,000 years of the history of the island world of Oceania.
The Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum is in Bremen's best-known street, Böttcherstrasse. Designed by sculptor Bernhard Hoetger, it is an impressive reminder of his expressionist creativity. The museum presents works by Paula Modersohn-Becker and Bernhard Hoetger, plus special exhibitions of classical modern art.
Vibrant, fascinating history of the port in a historical warehouse. Atmospheric monument to the history of Bremen's port over the past 120 years.
