Dedicated to the life and work of this important Romantic painter from Greifswald, the Caspar David Friedrich Centre is located in the house where he was born, a former soap and candle works. The prestigious Ernst Moritz Arndt University owns several academic treasures and has fascinating historical rooms, such as the assembly hall and the karzer, a student prison where, until 1914, recalcitrant students were confined for minor offences. The Theater Vorpommern (Western-Pomeranian Theatre) is a collaboration between the Greifswald and Stralsund theatre companies.
