The ancestral seat of the counts of Ortenburg is now privately owned. The part that is open to the public has been converted into a museum. This includes the courtyard which, after restoration work and the uncovering of the frescoes, was revealed to be a particularly magnificent example of Renaissance architecture. The last but one abbot at Fürstenzell abbey, Otto Prasser (1761-1792), went to the greatest effort to update and improve the abbey in 1775 to mark its 500th anniversary. He added another level to all of the abbey buildings that had previously only had two storeys. Two large staircases, a new refectory, banqueting hall and library were also added to highlight the grand and prestigious status of the abbey complex. Twelve strong atlases were put in to support the balustrade on the staircase and the shelves in the library were decorated with 36 highly unusual and humorous figures whose attributes reflect a variety of virtues and vices as well as a number of themes from the books on the bookcases."Wohlfühl" Thermal Baths
