In addition to its state-of-the-art treatment centres, Bad Oeynhausen has the largest thermal saltwater spring in the world - the Jordansprudel. The first thermal saline spring in Bad Oeynhausen was discovered in the "New Saltworks" near Rehme in 1845. The discovery of these medicinal springs caused a great stir and led to a number of wonderful spa complexes being established. One of the main attractions was the Jordansprudel, the world's largest carbonated thermal saltwater spring, with fountains that reach heights of up to 40 metres when there's no wind. The town has a number of beautifully restored historical buildings, many of which now house modern health treatment facilities.
