Bad Salzig's mild climate makes it an ideal health resort. It is thanks to the initiative of Captain Theodor Hoffmann from East Prussia that Bad Salzig is renowned today as a mineral spa. In 1902 and 1905 he had the Barbara and Leonoren springs drilled out. Since that time carbonated, alkaline-muriatic spring water has bubbled up from a Glauber's salt spring which is 446 metres deep.

The village of Bad Salzig is situated only a few kilometres up river from Boppard. It is set in the Salzhornbach valley with wonderful views across the Rhine and of Sterrenberg and Liebenstein castles.
