Arte & cultura

People have lived in the Black Forest for many centuries, from the Celts and the Romans to the present day. Each generation had its own way of life, sometimes change came swiftly, sometimes time seemed to stand still, as it does in Beinberg, a row village that is part of Bad Liebenzell. Why not take a walk along the Planets Trail and see if you can find the Milky Way? Touring between abbeys is the way to discover the monastic life along the Monastery Route.

Beinberg
Lovely views and absolute peace and quiet are the hallmarks of Beinberg, one of the last, well preserved German "Waldhufendörfer" or row villages. This type of settlement is characterised by a clearly divided hierarchy of land uses, such as farmyard, domestic garden, agricultural land, pasture and forest, with each farmstead separated by long, parallel hedges. A living example of an old form of settlement, it is well worth a closer look.

Planets Trail
The Planets Trail in Liebenzell's spa gardens was opened just in time for the total eclipse of the sun in August 1999. Visitors to the spa gardens can learn about this rare event as well as the solar system in general or simply stroll around this unusual setting - especially after dark when lights representing the sun illuminate the planets.

Northern Black Forest Monasteries Route
Discover centuries of monastic history hidden behind these ancient walls - the intriguing blend of history and vibrant modern-day living make for an unforgettable holiday experience. "Monastery hopping" might seem a touch irreverent, but unlike "island hopping" it is a calm and contemplative way to travel. The Monasteries Route runs for approximately 100 kilometres through the enchanting northern Black Forest from Alpirsbach to Maulbronn (UNESCO world heritage), offering a fascinating glimpse into the world of eminent monasteries.
