Eventos

Braunschweig has a packed and very diverse calendar of events. A wide range of concerts and performances take place throughout the year as part of Braunschweig's Classix Festival. Braunschweig's Christmas market is a well-known and charming event, arguably one of the most beautiful markets in the whole of Germany. A few weeks later Braunschweig is filled with noise and colour when its residents continue their long tradition of celebrating carnival time with parades.

Braunschweig Carnival Parade
Carnival time used to be known as "Schoduvel", which describes an age-old tradition when people tried to drive away evil spirits through loud noises and disguises. This medieval form of carnival was first mentioned in 1293 in the Braunschweig Stadtbuch. Today the Braunschweig carnival parade is the largest in North Germany and always takes place on the Sunday before Carnival Monday. In Braunschweig the favourite drink during carnival time is Prinzensud beer, which is brewed by Wolters brewery, and a keg of which is tapped every year on 11th November.

Magni Festival
For more than 30 years the Magni Festival has been held in and around the historical Magni quarter. On the first weekend in September the old town transforms into a huge festival which attracts visitors from near and far, with five stages presenting culture and entertainment for all tastes. And on the penultimate day of the festival there is the Magni run, a running and walking event for all ages.

Braunschweig Night of Culture
During the Braunschweig Night of Culture the centre of town becomes a stage. More than 70 venues offer a wide variety of different performances, from music, cabaret, dance and theatre to comedy acts. The unusual venues are a striking feature of this culture night. For example, readings are given in an old-fashioned tram, experimental dance is performed in the courtyard of the canons' houses and there are festively decorated pageant boats floating on the Oker river.
