Natureza e áreas verdes

The mere mention of the German North Sea coast and its hinterland calls to mind fresh wind and weather, foaming waves, the ebb and flow of the tides, mudflats, boat trips on the sea, water sports and holidays in one of Germany's most invigorating climates: nature at its best! In Bremerhaven itself, nature lovers can also find places of beauty such as Speckenbüttel Park and the zoo by the sea, to name but two.

Speckenbüttel Park
Speckenbüttel Park offers active recreation for body and mind within an unspoilt natural environment. Several themed gardens, such as the scented garden and meditation area, plus fitness facilities and children's play areas provide the perfect place to escape the daily routine or relax after sightseeing.

Zoo am Meer (the zoo by the sea)
If you want to see polar bears, tortoises, chimpanzees, seals and many more animals in an unique setting, then this zoo is for you! The Zoo am Meer is right on the dike between the dock and the mouth of the Weser. A variety of habitats and underwater worlds are represented here, giving a glimpse of the animals' natural behaviour. Children will love the adventure playground and petting zoo.

Lower Saxony Wattenmeer National Park
The Lower Saxony Wattenmeer National Park - on Lower Saxony's North Sea coast in the north of Germany - offers protection to the Wattenmeer, the coastal area of mudflats between the Ems and Elbe rivers, as well as to the offshore East Frisian islands. The park offers visitors impressive natural vistas and landscape formations such as the salt marshes which are typical of the region, the steep sandy dunes at Dangast and the 'floating fen' at Sehestedt - the only fen in Germany to survive outside a dike. The common shelduck, one of this coastal region's most attractive birds, is a particularly impressive resident.
