The Kavalier Hepp fortification houses the Ingolstadt municipal museum, which has 32 rooms documenting the town's history. The construction of the New Castle was commissioned by Duke Ludwig the Bearded in 1418. This mighty building with walls that are up to three metres thick is an impressive attraction in itself, but it also houses the Bavarian Army Museum. Exhibits at the museum include armour, weapons, flags and pictures. A special exhibition dedicated to the First World War is also on show at the former Reduit Tilly fortress.
