Natureza e áreas verdes

Everyone knows of the river Danube. Well, here in Ingolstadt, the river flows through the centre of town and its riverbanks are a great place for a leisurely walk. On a sunny day, you can also take a stroll through the rosarium in nearby Klenzepark. To the north of Ingolstadt you'll find the Altmühl Valley nature reserve. The romantic countryside here can be easily explored on one of the many walking and cycling trails. Take a boat trip on the river Altmühl for a particularly romantic experience.

"Alte Anatomie"
The "Alte Anatomie" is a magnificent late baroque building designed by Gabriel de Gabrieli to house the growing medical faculty of the university at the beginning of the 18th century. Since the 1970s, the "Alte Anatomie" has housed the German Museum of Medical History. Directly outside the building there is a well-designed medicinal herb garden (hortus medico botanicus), which has labelling for both blind and sighted visitors.

Klenzepark and the banks of the Danube
Klenzepark, the site of the 1992 Bavarian Regional Garden Show, is accessed from the New Castle via the Danube Footbridge. At the heart of this beautiful park is the historically important fortress designed by Leo von Klenze. The riverside promenade provides the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll and the riverside stage is a fantastic venue for concerts and open-air performances. The rosarium is the park's romantic highlight.

Altmühl Valley Nature Reserve
The Altmühl Valley nature reserve was established more than 30 years ago in order to protect one of Germany's most charming landscapes. Visitors can explore the wooded hills, steep dolomite cliffs and romantic castles and ruins by boat, on foot or by bike. Numerous reminders of Roman times such as country estates and watchtowers along the Limes wall have been restored to their former glory.
