Sugestão de excursões

Due to its central location, Limburg is an ideal base for excursions into the surrounding area. One place that is particularly worth seeing is Koblenz, set at the famous Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Other attractive destinations include Diez and Wetzlar with their magnificent half-timbered buildings and winding streets. There are also many castles and palaces to visit.

Koblenz
Koblenz, founded by the Romans, is set at the famous Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Ehrenbreitstein fortress and Stolzenfels castle are part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site, along with the legendary Loreley and the romantic castles perched on the steep slopes above the Rhine. The town is set amidst four ranges of hills, and two thirds of the surrounding countryside consists of woods, open green spaces or water. The Romans founded the town over 2,000 years ago, calling it "apud confluentes" or "at the confluence". Today Koblenz is a "small city" with a lot to offer those interested in art and culture.

Diez
With its winding streets, magnificent half-timbered buildings and secluded trails, Diez has everything a true romantic could wish for. Wandering through the picturesque old quarter, you'll see attractions such as the collegiate church and Grafenschloss Castle. There are also a number of castle ruins such as Laurenburg and grand residences such as Oranienstein palace and Schaumburg castle waiting to be explored. The town's broad cultural programme ranges from Shakespeare, first-rate concerts and open-air sessions to old town festivals and exhibitions.

Wetzlar
Wetzlar is a picturesque town situated on the German Half-Timbered Houses Route. Pretty timber-framed houses and majestic baroque buildings are the hallmarks of the old quarter with its winding streets. Remarkably diverse with its Romanesque and Gothic elements, the cathedral is the town's most famous landmark. With its broad range of artistic and cultural attractions, excellent shops and a variety of festivals and celebrations, Wetzlar is the ideal destination for an interesting day out.
