The Glass Route runs for 250km from Neustadt an der Waldnaab to Passau, passing through the Upper Palatinate and Bavarian Forests and featuring a number of glass manufacturers, artists and institutions including the Glass Museum in Passau, the "glass forest" in Regen, the "glass barn" in Viechtach, Herrmann glass gallery in Drachselsried, Weinfurtner Glassmaking Village in Arnbruck and the JOSKA crystal centre in Bodenmais. Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Zwiesel and Frauenau are the centres of glass and crystal production.

Neustadt an der Waldnaab and Nachtmann glass
Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the Upper Palatinate Forest, the "lead crystal town", is the headquarters of Nachtmann, a company famous around the world for its glassware. Exclusive lead crystal can be purchased at their factory outlet and in the town's specialist shops. Exhibits at the municipal and glass museum include introductions to glassmakers and their creations. At two demonstration glass workshops you can learn all about the art of glassblowing.

Zwiesel - a centre of glass production
With around 15 glassworks, glass workshops and galleries, Zwiesel is the centre of glassmaking and processing in the Bavarian Forest. The Technical College for Glass, Schott Zwiesel, Ambiente, Rimpler and the Theresienthal crystal factory are just a few of the names associated with glassmaking in the town.

Frauenau - the "glass heart" of the Bavarian Forest
The Glass Museum has exclusive exhibits and vibrant presentations as well as a number of works by leading artist Erwin Eisch, who lives in Frauenau. Not far from the museum are the famous factories of Poschinger and Eisch.
