The array of museums on Sylt is characterised by a sense of tradition and a closeness to nature. The Vogelkojen were once used to catch wild ducks. The Vogelkoje artificial water habitats in Kampen were laid down in 1767 along Dutch designs. Up until the 1920s, around 25,000 ducks were caught here annually. After it was comprehensively restored at the end of the 1980s, it became home to a natural history exhibition that documents how and why the ducks were caught. Local history museum
