Museus
The array of museums on Sylt is characterised by a sense of tradition and a closeness to nature. The Vogelkojen were once used to catch wild ducks. In Kampen, they now serve as a natural history reserve. The history of the island and the everyday life of island inhabitants in the past can be explored in the local history museum and the Old Frisian House museum. Vogelkoje artificial water habitats
The Vogelkoje artificial water habitats in Kampen were laid down in 1767 along Dutch designs. Up until the 1920s, around 25,000 ducks were caught here annually. After it was comprehensively restored at the end of the 1980s, it became home to a natural history exhibition that documents how and why the ducks were caught. Local history museum
Visitors can see a varied collection of exhibits about the way of life on Sylt in Keitum's local history museum in the east of the island: traditional costumes, ceramic tiles, grandfather clocks, tobacco tins, spinning wheels and a historical gravestone are all on show, as well as nautical photos and documents. The neighbouring gallery documents everything you need to know about Sylt's famous personalities. Old Frisian House museum
The museum tells the story of the Sylt way of life in the 18th century. Faithfully restored bedrooms with cupboard-beds and cast-iron ovens help give an authentic feel of the island's history.
