The Wernigerode Art and Culture Association is based in the historical market square. Four rooms, which were in residential use in the 19th century, have been preserved in their original state and provide ample space for a gallery of contemporary art. The gallery is notable for its barrel vault and fascinating inner courtyard. It primarily houses paintings and prints of the Wernigerode town hall and a variety of Harz landscapes. Also worth a visit are the national and international ex-libris (bookplates) dating from the Renaissance to modern times.
