Leipzig offers an excellent range of shops and boutiques. There are high-quality specialist stores in the stylish ambience of the larger arcades. This old property is a fine example of Leipzig's historical mercantile buildings. With its luxury shops and boutiques, it is the grandest of Leipzig's shopping arcades and is also one of the few to have been fully preserved. It connects with the Königshaus and Messehof arcades. Leipzig's main railway station has 26 platforms. It is Europe's biggest railway terminus and one of its biggest passenger stations. Since its modernisation and the incorporation of the Hauptbahnhof Promenaden, it is now a fully integrated shopping and services centre on three levels (approx. 30,000m²). Leipzig's markets selling fresh regional produce are very popular. The Saturday markets at the Festwiese near the central stadium and on the grounds of the old exhibition centre have everything your heart could desire. An antiques and bric-à-brac market takes place on the first weekend of every month. There are also traditional farmers' markets in May/June and the Christmas market with the biggest Advent calendar in the world.
