This massive, 15th-century fortification with its twin towers is Lübeck's signature attraction and a reminder of the proud past of the town once regarded as the "Queen of the Hanseatic League". A number of Lübeck companies such as the marzipan manufacturer Niederegger have integrated it into their company logo.

The massive building with its two towers, all that remains of the town fortifications, is Lübeck's most famous attraction. Holsten Gate, at the western entrance to the old quarter, is one of Germany's best-known and finest examples of a late medieval town gate. A number of products such as Lübeck marzipan have it as their symbol. It also houses the Museum of Town History.
