The State Art Gallery contains paintings and sculptures stretching back over six centuries, mostly from France, Germany and the Netherlands. It originally consisted of the collections from the former Badensian royal residence. Margravine Caroline Luise collected a large number of Dutch and French paintings, founding the "Mahlerey Cabinet" in the 18th century.
